Salesforce Lays Off Nearly 1,000 Employees in Early 2026 Cuts

Salesforce has laid off employees earlier this month, with these cuts affecting around 1,000 roles, according to Business Insider.Ā

The affected employees allegedly fall into Salesforce’s marketing, product management, and data analytics departments, as well as the Agentforce AI team and Heroku team.

The Scope of Layoffs

According to an insider source, under 1,000 roles were affected in this particular layoff round, and it has not targeted one team specifically, instead impacting four core teams, including the Agentforce team.

Last month, posts from employees on LinkedIn announcing their departures as a result of the layoff began to appear, with Business Insider reporting that at least nine employees posted that their roles had been eliminated.

These layoffs come amid a considerable executive restructuring as four senior Salesforce executives left within just three months, with Adam Evans, the former EVP and GM of AI, being the latest to go.Ā

Salesforce confirmed yesterday that the executive movement was part of a larger plan to connect Agentforce and Slack under the leadership of Joe Inzerillo, the President of Enterprise AI and Technology at Salesforce. Whether the rest of these layoffs play a role in this plan is currently unconfirmed.

Where Does Salesforce Go Now?

Cross-team layoffs like these are not unusual for a company of Salesforce’s size, especially at this time of year, before announcing end-of-fiscal-year earnings. However, the shakeup of the Agentforce team in particular raises questions about what changed in Salesforce’s strategy to warrant this push.

Agentforce currently has 18,500 customers, with 9,500 paying, and the number of customers is growing 50% QoQ. It evidently remains perhaps the most important part of Salesforce’s onward strategy – alongside Data Cloud – so where do they take it from here?

Final Thoughts

This round of layoffs solidifies two main points: that tech layoffs are becoming more normalized, especially at this time of year, and that Salesforce has made another decision regarding its path forward.Ā
